What are Chapbooks?

_____________________________________________________
Many poets are first published in chapbooks, a small booklet,
usually 5.5" wide by 8.5" length with a cover. They are useful for poetry collections.

Some writers like to send chapbooks to their friends and family every year instead of Christmas or other holiday cards. Imagine giving those you love a gift made of your own words. A chapbook can be the perfect gift for any occasion.

Chapbook Benefits

1. Chapbooks are a great way to promote yourself.
2. Your chapbooks can be given as gifts any time of year.
Chapbooks provide an affordable option for readers to own
your work when they might not be able to afford a $24.95 book.
3. A chapbook is a great way to release work on a particular theme
    or style.
4. Submit it as samples of your work to poetry magazines and journals.
5. Submit it to a chapbook contest.
6. Submit it to publishers in the hopes they will either publish some of
your work in an anthology or publish an entire book of your poetry.
7. Chapbooks are easier to keep in print than publishing an entire
     book.
8. Chapbooks can influence future publishing potential, invitations to
give readings, and invitations to present.
9. Chapbook publications add to the dynamics of your life as a poet
and they pump up your literary resume.
10. Chapbook publishing might be the “what you do for love" element
of your life as a poet.
11. Let venue directors know you have a chapbook out now and are
      available as a featured reader
